When Tom wakes up, blankets pulled up to pile thickly around his ears, it takes a moment to remember why he’s on the daybed in the office and not the objectively more comfortable mattress in his bedroom. Blinking blearily, it comes back slowly, filling in like watercolor, and he groans out a soft laugh as he pulls the blankets over his head completely, hiding from the embarrassment of being his younger self. He indulges in that for only a moment before throwing them down.
“Oh, Daniel,” he murmurs.
He sits up and stretches, then climbs out of bed and pokes his head out of the office.
It’s early yet, early enough that Daniel shouldn’t be awake, so Tom pads softly through the apartment. His glasses are still on the bookshelf where he’d left them on that first day, and he chuckles softly as he pulls them on. The living room comes into crisp focus and he continues on into the bedroom, climbing into his side of the bed and cuddling up close to Daniel. He presses a warm kiss to his shoulder and hugs him around the middle, sighing contentedly.
“I’m back,” he murmurs — quietly, because while it strikes him as likely that Daniel woke up the moment Tom entered the room, there’s a chance he hadn’t and if that’s the case then Tom doesn’t want to wake him. But even in sleep, the words, his voice, might be comforting. “And I love you.”

When his Tom’s voice spoke so softly and lovingly to him, Daniel relaxed.
“Welcome back,” he said, and carefully rolled over so he could see Tom without dislodging him. “I missed you and I love you too.”

"I missed you, too," he says. "Even though I technically saw you every day. I missed knowing you." He puffs a breath out and hides his face against Daniel's shoulder for a moment. "God, Daniel, I'm so sorry."

He wasn't sure why he remembered being too young and neither Peggy nor Tom had, but it was just the kind of sense of humor this place tended to have.

"I ... didn't, sorry. You were cute, but you were way too young for me," he admitted. "If you'd been the other you coming in here, I was about to have to gently turn you down."

"If you yearned, I didn't notice," he admitted, "But we both know I might not have."
They'd had several conversations about Daniel not noticing that someone was flirting with him and Tom being very amused by it.

He leaned down and kissed Tom firmly, partially because he'd been wanting to do that for almost a week and partially because it was an effective means of making Tom stop talking nonsense. Well, stop talking in general.

"Daniel, please," he breathes, kissing him again. He needs to feel him, needs to be close with him and remind them both that things are back to normal. It aches through him, growing needier by the moment. "Oh, please. I want to feel you."

Behind him, he heard Bopp jump off the bed and leave the room. Bopp always knew when her people didn't need her assistance and usually decided she should be in her bed in the office on the other side of the house.

"Good girl," he says, before sinking into another kiss. His fingers curl into Daniel's shirt, tugging it up his back. When it bunches up under Daniel's arms, he tugs and says, "Off, please, off."

“I missed touching you so much,” Daniel said against Tom’s skin. “Not just this. Just touching you.”

"We're both ta-tactile people," he admits, words stammering as Daniel's lips buzz pleasure through his skin. He turns, smudging a kiss against Daniel's temple, fingers curling back into his hair. "Take the day with me?"

"You don't want to go in and make sure your sub didn't completely screw up your lesson plans or assign next week's homework?"
He'd assumed Tom would be eager to get back to his routine and the normal everyday life they led here, the one they both found so comforting and calm in the middle of whatever the city decided to do.

"I don't know. Lemme check what I have today," he said, and reluctantly disengaged himself from Tom's arms and fingers in his hair. He rolled over to look at the calendar on his DPD phone and check his email. He'd taken Friday off to help Tommy get settled, but he had plenty of time banked. He just needed to find out if there was anything he couldn't move or miss today.

He cleared his throat, then shook his head as he opened his texting app to text his captain and let him know he was going to be out today.
"Nothing that can't wait till tomorrow, especially if you're so determined that I'm gonna play hooky with you."

He felt the same way, though, and he lifted his hips so that Tom could pull his pajama pants down. He wasn’t sure if he was about to lose them completely, but he was fine with that if he did. The bedroom was warm and felt warmer by the second.

“Oh, lord,” he hissed when Tom tweaked his nipple particularly expertly, then put a hand on Tom’s wrist to tug him back up. “C’mere, you.”
He wanted to kiss Tom now. His johnson could wait even if it definitely didn’t think it could.

"You called?" he asks expectantly.

“I need to kiss you,” he told Tom, and proceeded to do that. He just needed to touch and to kiss Tom. They’d get to other things, but he needed to kiss him.

“What do you need from me?”
Tom was the one who’d suggested they play hooky, after all, and Daniel was going to make sure he got what he wanted today.

"Then you'll have that. You want a rubber?" They were well past needing rubbers for protection, but it did make cleanup easier, so they used them sometimes anyway. And sometimes Tom didn't want even that little barrier between them. It was always his call, though. Daniel never assumed one way or the other.

"No," he says. "I want to feel you. Just you."

"Then that's what we'll do," he agreed, although the last syllable trailed off into a sigh when Tom kissed that spot on his jaw. "I want to be able to kiss you, if you don't mind one of those positions."
